Hi,
When I started Thunderbird 52.2.1 (32-bit) on Windows XP this morning, I found 5 additional tabs open with this message:
"Another program on your computer would like to Modify Thunderbird with the following add-on:"
The 5 extensions (add-ons) are shown as follows:
British English Dictionary (Updated) 1.19.6
messagenotesplus 1.5.0.0
ConfirmBeforeDelete 0.3.2
SmoothWheel (AMO) 0.45.8.20130519.3.1-signed.1-signed
Lighting 5.4.2.1
I haven't made any recent changes to my system (had these extensions already installed for years), so these messages come as a surprise.
Can anyone explain why I am seeing these messages now? Is it anything to be concerned about? What action do I need to take?
Thanks.

Re: Extension Messages Unexpectedly Showing on Thunderbird S
Lightning 5.4.2.1 was released June 23, 2017 and Message Notes Plus 1.5.0.0 November 12, 2016 so it doesn't sound like poor wording for a normal add-ons update. Do you have any program such as Avast (its a optional feature in the anti-virus scanner), Secunia Personal Software Inspector, FileHippo AppManager, or Ninite Updater Free that try to automatically keep software and drivers uptodate?
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbi ... uirements/ claims Thunderbird 52 is the last release to support Windows XP by the way.

Re: Extension Messages Unexpectedly Showing on Thunderbird S
It appears as though the extensions (and dictionary) were automatically disabled for some unknown reason. I simply enabled them again and those other tabs disappeared.
I don't have any software for auto updating. I have Avast (free version), but use a custom install with minimal components - the Software Updater component is not installed.
Thanks for mentioning about Windows XP support with Thunderbird - will look into updating...
