Uninstall completely from mac
I cannot find the files thunderbird in my library and cannot get it to totally uninstall so I can re install it. I am having issues and cannot get the program to run right. I keep getting an error message every time I move emails to the trash or try and empty trash. I want to totally get rid of ALL the files. I have moved it to the trash and tried to reinstall but still have files because it is exactly what I uninstalled. Can someone help me? Thank you in advance.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Files_and_fol ... hunderbird (whats in a profile)
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profiles.ini_file (how to find the profiles.ini file)
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager (a utility to create/delete/manage profiles)
I'm going to assume you are using a POP account (not a IMAP account). You can tell by look at the server type field in the accounts server settings. It should say POP Mail Server.
Option1 (not recommended):
Your mail/settings/address books/add-ons etc. are stored in a separate directory , called a profile. Help -> troubleshooting information -> open folder will open your file manager (Finder) at that directory. You could delete that directory, the profiles.ini file (used to find your profile) and uninstall Thunderbird to start fresh. However, I suspect that is an overreaction.
http://write.flossmanuals.net/thunderbi ... underbird/ claims that you can uninstall Thunderbird on a Mac by:
* Open a new window in the Finder.
* In the Applications folder, right-click Thunderbird.app. A menu appears.
* Select Move to Trash.
* In your user Library, right-click the Thunderbird folder. A menu appears.
* Select Move to Trash.
Its possible you need to reconfigure Finder to show hidden files. Unfortunately I don't use OSX. See if http://ianlunn.co.uk/articles/quickly-s ... mavericks/ helps
Option 2:
Its possible the problem is something wrong with the "trash." or "trash.msf" files used by your trash folder. Try exiting Thunderbird and deleting both. When you restart Thunderbird it should create empty replacements for those two files. You should have one copy of those files in the Local Folders accounts local directory (leave them alone unless you are configured to use a global inbox) and one in your accounts local directory. If you are not sure where your account stores its files look at the "local directory" setting at the bottom of the accounts server settings window. It should have a Browse button to the right.
What is the full text of the error message?
Do you get a similar error if you move a message to a different folder?
Option 3:
Occasionally re-installing Thunderbird helps but most problems are due to something wrong in the profile. Rather than deleting anything you could hold off on that for later and try using the profile manager to create a new profile instead and see if it has the same problem. If it doesn't then we can give you advice on how to migrate your old mail folders and address books to the new profile. As long as your profiles.ini file is healthy (has NO errors even for profiles you don't care about) you can use the profile manager to create a new profile or switch what profile you use. Your profiles.ini file is healthy.

Re: Uninstall completely from mac
Thank you I will try all this stuff. I am using Imap NOT pop. I will try and find the trash folder and delete it. I cannot see the whole error. I can click delete button and they just disappear and not move to trash. I like to keep them in trash for a few days incase I need something I accidentally sent to trash but not they just go away.

If you are using a IMAP account you can set "When I delete a file" to "just mark it deleted" in the accounts server settings. Or choose "Move it to this folder" and choose a different folder as the Trash folder if you like being able to review deleted messages afterwards. "See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Deleting_mess ... P_accounts for more information.
