Sending text message from TB

Post by Bobbert »

Is there an add-on or a simple way to send a text message to someone's cell phone from TB?

There is an SMS Gateway product that accomplishes this, but was wondering if TB had a simple add-on that would do it?

Anyone have experience here?

Just a FWIW...
Most, if not all, of those top 4 or 5, have received bad reviews.
Some have not been updated in years & one seems to be for South Africa?

Just go here and enter the phone number http://www.freesmsgateway.info/ (Only USA/Canada)

Then click the Search button. The search will return a SMS and MMS gateway address.

Compose a message with the SMS gateway address in the To: field.

I added the addresses returned into the contacts AB entry under Other:Custom.

Isn't a SMS gateway what all cell phones use for text messages between phones and carriers?

Worked in my tests from Thunderbird to my cell phone, replies also worked. For Verizon it is (phone#)@vtext.com.

FIDO is her carrier.........don't know if that makes a difference?

WaltS48, are you saying that you can also receive replies from a cell phone?

FIDO is in Canada, and she received it.

If I enter text in the Subject line it appears in parenthesis when I receive the message, and yes I can receive replies in Thunderbird. This has only been tested between my TB and my cell phone.

Okay, I tested between my TB and roommates phone, (T-Mobile carrier). She received the message with the Subject, but no text was visible when I clicked View. I typed a Reply and received it in TB. Mine is a smartphone, hers is a flip phone.

Looks like the type of phone matters. :?:
