Getting email oddity

Post by Pee Jay »

I have Thunderbird set to check for new emails every 10 minutes.

When I hear the new email sound go off I go Thunderbird and find nothing there but if I immediately click the "Get Message" button the sound goes off again and the emails arrive.

Anyone else experiencing this oddity?

Any suggestions to fix it?

I am using Thunderbird 52.1.1 (32 bit) on Windows 10 v1703

Assuming this is a POP account, not an IMAP, in your account settings where you have it set to check every 10 minutes, do you also have the box checked to download those new messages?

Hi Doug

Thanks for your reply.

POP account

I used to find new messages available immediately on hearing the new message sound but not lately.

I checked in account settings as you suggested and found that somehow the item "Automatically download new messages" had become unchecked. It was checked when I set up the account yonks ago. Don't know how it became unchecked. I should have thought to have a look before posting.

So, many thanks. All OK now.
