I am getting the subject error when I try to retrieve email from my ATT mail account. I have tried the following without success:
1. Change Authentication Method to something different than the one you have
2. Close and re-open Thunderbird; not working
3. Change Authentication Method back to "Plain Password"
4. Close and re-open Thunderbird.
This is when running Thunderbird 52.2.1 on Windows 7 on a laptop.
Running Thunderbird 11 on OS X El Capitan I get the following error:
The current operation on 'Inbox' did not succeed. The mail server for account xxxxxxxxx@att.net responded: [CLIENTBUG] LSUB Command is not valid in this state.
When I close the dialog, the SELECT command error then pops up.
ATT mail : [CLIENTBUG] SELECT command is not valid (Mac)

Re: ATT mail : [CLIENTBUG] SELECT command is not valid (Mac)
See http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3032176 if your AT&T account is using yahoo. I'm using a free Yahoo IMAP account with the imap.mail.att.net server (due to the July problems) without any problems and the July Yahoo IMAP threads at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3031849 and http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3031857 have become quiet so its possible you're running into a temporary problem.
I assume you're using a IMAP account because the POP3 protocol doesn't support a Select command.
