Warning Box from Thunderbird - Certificate

Post by Nisko555 »

Lately, I have been getting a warning from Thunderbird that says: You are about to override how Thunderbird identifies this site. Legitimate banks, stores, and other public sites will not ask you to do this. Location: pop.googlemail.com:995'
Get certificate. This site attempts to identify itself with invalid information. Unknown identify. The certificate is not trusted because it hasn't been verified as issued by a trusted authority using a secure signature. It then asks if I want to Permanently store this exception. I get this warning every time Thunderbird tries to get my mail. Too bad I can't attach a screenshot.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/SSL_Security_Error .

Are you running Avast!? It roots your certificates and in a small percentage of those installations Thunderbird detects that and complains. If you have another account that doesn't have this problem, then it wouldn't be due to Avast!.

See if you can look at the certificate and see what CA (trusted authority) it uses. https://pki.google.com/ documents what Gmail normally uses.

See if you have the same problem if you log into Gmail webmail using a browser. If you do then I'd suspect a problem with either your system or how you connect to the Internet.

Its possible to have both a POP and a IMAP account for the same email provider at the same time. Think about adding a Gmail IMAP account and seeing if it has similar problems. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Gmail if you want to experiment with that. Enable "leave messages on server" in the POP account if you do that so that the message(s) are also available for the IMAP account.

I am using Kaspersky Anti-Virus trial. Is there a way to shut off this warning? The server it is calling out is: pop.googlemail.com:995. Thanks.

Check the checkbox to create a permanent security exception the next time it occurs, if you are sure you are really connecting to who you think you are.

I thought I did that - but it still comes back. Perhaps I checked the wrong box? If you have Kaspersky, please tell me where to find that box. I attempted to put into an exclusion, but that didn't work either. Shutting down Kaspersky anti-virus worked but I can't leave it that way.
