Many boxes in emails (Gmail using Thunderbird) are empty - n

I think this is called 'remote content' but I'm not sure. It's obvious that there should be content inside the boxes - but there isn't. I'm hoping someone can give me some suggestions on how to solve this issue. I'm using GMAIL with Thunderbird - Windows 10.

You should see a yellow banner with "To protect your privacy, Thunderbird has blocked remote content in the his message", followed by a Options button at the far right. Press the button to manage who can provide you remote images. if you enable a source that applies to all messages.
