Could not send or receive email on another wifi

Post by mwrmwz »

I don't know if this is a Thunderbird issue or not, but I use Thunderbird for email so here goes.

- At home I connect my Acer notebook to the internet via wifi, no problem. Today I took the notebook to a library and connected to their wifi. The web worked fine in the browser, but email in Thunderbird didn't.

- When trying to receive email (Get Messages), each connection (I have several email addresses) took a VERY long time and did not receive any emails. I know there were several available because they came in on my phone and also when I got back home they all came in.

- When trying to send an email it timed out before sending.

Any ideas?

Thunderbird should use the default network adapter, which I assume Firefox is also using. I've seen Firefox work over a troublesome Internet connection while Thunderbird wouldn't. I can only assume its because a browser doesn't need the ability to maintain a logical link as long .

Many libraries support both Ethernet and WiFi. I suggest you see if using a Ethernet connection at the library makes any difference.
