Thunderbird stops connecting after a while, Mac OS X

Post by hsuonsivu »

Mac OS X latest

Thunderbird 52.4.0 (same with 52.3.0), MacOS Sierra, Version 10.12.6

After thunderbird has been up for a while, all new connections get stuck with message "Connecting to smtp.gmail.com" or whatever server it is connecting (imap, smtp, two servers). After this nothing works, it does not connect to any account or smtp server. Annoyingly, drafts do not get saved either, so unfinished emails may be lost unless copy-pasted somewhere.

Two mail accounts are configured.

Sometimes it starts working after going to offline mode, turning network on or off, but not always. I have not found a consistent way to recover other then restarting Thunderbird.

This started when I was using 52.3.0, and upgrade to 52.4.0 did not help noticeably.

I am seeing the same problem. After I send 5-10 emails successfully to my SMTP server (SSL/TLS), Thunderbird hangs with "Connecting to smtp.<domain>" on my next attempt. I have to kill Thunderbird and restart to send the email. It always works the next time just fine.... then after 5-10 emails, same thing. It's very consistent.
