Setting up new email account: Incoming server already exist

Post by joeonamac »

I am trying to create a new account. I've added many. This is one more.
Now I am getting Error Creating Account: Incoming server already exists.

Well, yes it does. It's the incoming server I'm using for all my other accounts, 6 of them or so already.
The incoming server defaulted itself to be: IMAP, imap.gmail.com, SSL
I look at all my other email accounts. Every one has imap.gmail.com as the incoming server.

What's wrong?
I have Thunderbird 52.4.0 (64-bit).
On a very old imac. But OSX is current enough 10.11.6
If it means anything, Firefox took it upon itself to update to 57.0 today. (Everything has different look and feel and I'm pissed about that.)

Thoughts, suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Joe

The new account wizard expects each account to be a unique combination of the account type (POP/IMAP), mail server name, and username (email address). You can have as many Gmail IMAP accounts as you want, as long as each has a different username. Perhaps you're entering the same email address as another account by mistake.

Did you solve your problem?

Worst case you can use the AddMailAccountManually add-on from https://freeshell.de/~kaosmos/index-en.html#addmanual to add the account without using the new account wizard. It won't try to sanity check what settings you use.
