Yahoo Mail - Sync Certain Subfolders to Thunderbird

Post by RJHawkins »

I have a Yahoo mail account in which I receive all sorts of emails. Is it possible to only sync subfolders from that account to a client like Thunderbird? For instance, I'd like to move my important emails via the web-based interface into subfolders and then have that subfolder sync to Thunderbird so I can respond to those emails from a desktop client. Is this possible with Thunderbird?
Thanks for any help.

Yes, but to synch folders other than the Inbox you must set up the account in Thunderbird as an IMAP type account. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/th ... -and-yahoo

Is it possible to not sync the "Inbox" folder but still sync other subfolders?

I've never tried that but it appears you could "unSubscribe" from the Inbox folder if there was a reason to do so. https://www.pcworld.com/article/250202/ ... tions.html

I tried unsubscribing my yahoo inbox folder and it had no effect. I suspect that is because its a "special" folder (one it assumes always exists because its essential). Subscribing is really meant to let you temporarily hide/ignore optional folders that create visual clutter etc.

In tools -> account settings -> yahoo -> synchronization & storage-> advanced uncheck the yahoo inbox folder if you don't want it sync'd. However, if you do that you will still see the inbox because syncing only effects the contents of the optional offline folders. You will still see the remote folder as long as you are working online. I suspect unsyncing the folder is not what you really want to do, you want to hide it.

It sounds like you are moving the messages manually using webmail, not by server based filters. Have you thought about doing that in Thunderbird instead, and setting up message filters to automate some of it?
