Global Account reset

Post by Butch72 »

I have two email accounts with Yahoo/ATT. One of them was added to the Global Accounts and I wish to undo that and have both my eamil account separate and not included
with the Global accounts. What would be the best way to restore the one email account that was added to the Global Account? Would I have to reinstall TB again
and start from scratch with a clean profile and then restore my backed up emails (Mozilla Backup)?
The Top account (RED) is Global
The green one was added to the red Global account
The blue one has not been added to the Gloval account
I wanted to remove the association of the green account from the global account (red) and remove it from the Global account.

First, it will be important to backup your data before making any changes of the type you describe. If by "Mozilla Backup" you are referring to Mozbackup, please be aware that it is no longer supported by its author and users have reported problems when using it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

After doing that you should be able to simply change the option in the dialogue you included in that screen shot: Rather than "Inbox for a different account", select "Inbox for this account."

I tried that trick and all it did was create another account but did not populate it with all the email that was in the account within the Global Account. I also do not see the Local Folders in the left side of the
TB pane. I wanted to create an Local archive folder on my second email account then created subfolders with years i.e. 2015/2016 and so on and so forth. I was able to do this with my first account but
not with my second one. I'm unable to remove my primary account from the Global account, I tried the inbox for this account and I was able to see an account with the same name but was not populated with
existing email -

You can move the messages from the old version of that account to the newly displayed version of the account and then remove the original folders.

You can't see where to create a local folder because you don't seem to have Thunderbird's standard Local Folders pseudo account ,

How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

"One of them was added to the Global Accounts and I wish to undo that and have both my eamil account separate and not included"

You're using a global inbox, not a global account (based on the image you posted a link to). It looks like the red account is a renamed Local Folders pseudo account, since it only has junk space and disk settings in its account settings.

1) If you change the advanced account settings for the green account from "inbox for different account" to "inbox for this account" it will unhide the accounts folders in the folder pane, and use them again. However the green accounts folders are out of date.

2) You said the blue accounts messages are not global. If that is correct move messages from the red account (Local Folders) to the corresponding folders in the green account. That will update the green accounts folders.

3) If you had created message filters for Local Folders (red) you will need to update the POP accounts (green) message filters accordingly.

4. Select what account you want to be at the top of the folder pane (default account) and choose tools -> account settings -> account actions -> set as default. If necessary use the manually sort folders add-on at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunde ... rs/?src=ss to tweak the accounts order in the folder pane.

5. Rename the red account to something like Local Folders. That should be it.

I've previously installed the sort program and it doesn't see any accounts to sort

That add-on works for me with Thunderbird 52.4.0 under Windows 10. I even uninstalled the version I was using and downloaded/installed a fresh copy. What version of Thunderbird are you using? Your user agent string in your post says you are using Windows 7, which should not be a problem.

What happened to your red account (what used to be called Local Folders)? You used to have 3 accounts (two lower case, one upper case), the last screen shot shows 2.

I use the same version in WIn 7 64bit. There ARE 3 account, one of them in embedded in the global account.
I was having RX/TRX Issues with TB - The Yahoo server was just fine. I got it touch with a tech support bubba (paid for it) and he located the first account (ijdjr@att.net)
into the global (IJDJR@ATT.net) and managed to loose some of my incoming email. He had remote control of my rig. I had a recent backup copy and was able to recover 90% of the inbox email in the second account I won't let then mess with it again. Just trying to get it back the way it was before that tech geek hosed it up to the state it's in. Don't want to fool with this anymore and make things any worse then they are.

Okay. I suggest you undo using a global inbox before you try to change the order of the accounts. The main reason for using the add-on is if you don't like where Local Folders shows up in the folder pane afterwards.
