In my Vista system (Thunderbird 52.5.0) , Thunderbird gives an error message when trying to filter the messages into the folders I have created. It says that I should try to repair the folders through the "properties".
I have tried this, and other ways to fix it, but I can fix it only temporarily.
I get the same error in my Kubuntu Linux 17.10 system, for some Thunderbird versions now.

How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Edit->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

If this happens repeatedly after you have repaired the folders, do you shut down your computer without first closing your open programs? Shutting down the computer while programs still have files open has been known to cause file corruption.
