Thunderbird will not connect

I have windows 10,Mozilla and Thunderbird for my email. When I click to open my email I get this little box that says "Failed to connect to server inbound att.net."My internet server is att.I have checked and Thunderbird is up to date as well as Mozilla. After trying to open several times the email will finally load,sometimes it is only after I open Mozilla. Any thoughts?

Are you using AT&T or Yahoo as your email provider? Yahoo supports both imap.mail.yahoo.com and imap.mail.att.net according to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Yahoo . Some people have better luck with different servers.

If that doesn't help try using a Gmail account and see if it has the same problem (just for troubleshooting purposes). http://kb.mozillazine.org/Gmail

What do you mean by Mozilla is up to date? Do you mean Firefox?

Firefox is up to date as is Thunderbird, my email just will not connect to the server which is att.net
