Global search results - disable conversation threading

I live by the Global search on Thunderbid but one thing that is a HUGE impediment for me is the fact that the search results come back in threaded conversation form when you click on "open email as a list".

How can I make the search results come back as a simple date sorted list without the threading?

To be clear : I am NOT asking about normal email viewing nor how to set the viewing defaults. All of my regular mail folders are sorted the way I want them. This question only pertains to Global full text search on the upper right-hand corner.

Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Yes, it's not a bug... I just want to know how to change the default view for global search.
