Importing files into a Subfolder

Post by orealius »

Somehow, an entire folder of subfolders has disappeared. They are backed up as "files" and also "msf files" But when I try to import them into the the account subfolder nothing happens. I go to a new folder I just created (subfolders) and go to import tools/ import files from a directory...but the files don't show up! They are clearly present, however when I check the directory itself, but not when I use the import files option in TB.

HELP!

Check if any of the *.msf files for parent folders are marked read-only. That can hide child folders. The mbox files (named after the folder but with no file extension, such as "inbox.") have the messages. The *.msf files are just a cache of the folder listing and can be automatically re-created.

tools -> import doesn't know how to import mail from mbox files/another Thunderbird profile. Use the ImportExportTools add-on instead.

TB has been acting very strangely since the latest Win 10 update. An entire folder disappeared. I got it back, then it disappeared again. I then imported all the files and MSF files, then deleted the msf files in the profile and everything seems ok for now. Ever seen a Windows Update mess with TB?

Nope, though I assume its possible. I've had it disable USB devices (preventing me from logging in after a restart), trash restore points and break my anti-virus scanner but never had it cause a problem for Thunderbird. However I've had problems due to a graphics driver that only effected Thunderbird (until I updated it from the vendors web site).

It wouldn't hurt to run chkdisk to see if your hard disk is having intermittent problems. https://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/run-chkdsk-utility-xp/
