I can no longer send via my verizon.net account. Therefore, I am trying to set up a Gmail account thru Thunderbird. I have reset my password twice and when I tried it a 3rd time, it said it was sending it to some d*********@verizon.net which is not my recovery email.
These are the screens that I am getting. (well, I see no option to attach a png file?)
Why doesn't it accept the password that I use to log in on the web?
Thx

See if http://kb.mozillazine.org/Gmail helps.
If you are using a Gmail IMAP account I suggest you disable two step verification (if you enabled it for your google account) and use OAuth2 as the verification method. Oauth2 "requires cookies to be enabled for google.com. Cookies are normally enabled by default (Tools -> Privacy -> Accept cookies from web site is checked, and "Keep until" is set to "until they expire"). " You could also had an exception to allow cookies for just that web site and change the default cookie settings to not accept cookies from web sites.
You can use "normal password" as the authentication method if you go to https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps using a browser and select "Allow to let less secure apps access your Google account". Otherwise Gmail may claim your password was invalid.
Thunderbird doesn't know how to support two step verification. If you are using two step verification and want to keep that feature you need to create a app password for gmail and use it instead of the normal password.
Are you using a vpn? Gmail will frequently complain that somebody else is using your password if you use Thunderbird over a vpn. Sometimes you can just set a security exception, other times you need to log into google and state that that last login was legitimate. The only real solutions I know of is to either use a vpn that supports split tunneling so that Thunderbird doesn't use the vpn, or use a vpn add-on for your browser instead of installing it for windows.

Thx for your reply. You're talking a lot of Greek, tho. First off, every time I go to log in to GMail.com on the web I get this page "Add Gmail to your Google Account". Why? I'd love to check all of these things. I sent a test email to GMail but I have no idea how to get to it. Once I can get into it, perhaps I can answer your questions.tanstaafl wrote:See if http://kb.mozillazine.org/Gmail helps.

Re: I can't set up Gmail on T'bird
Btw, I just checked on the web and I see that the box for 2 Step is "Off".
This is what the help file says to get into GMail
Sign in
1) On your computer, go to gmail.com.
2) Enter your Google Account email or phone number and password. (See #3 below)
3) If information is already filled in and you need to sign in to a different account, click Use another account. (the info is NOT filled in and when I put my gmail address in there, it says that it is already taken....well, duh, of course it is.........by ME!)
4) If you see a page describing Gmail instead of the sign-in page, click Sign in in the top right corner of the page.
Apparently, from my searches the help file results that show pics, I am supposed to get a page that says "ONE ACCOUNT ALL OF GOOGLE". I never get to that page.

If I go to gmail.com , enter my gmail address and press next I get a "One account. All of Google" page (at https://accounts.google.com/signin/v1/lookup) that asks for my password. If you don't get there check to see if cookies are enabled for google.com.
Personally I refuse to give gmail my phone number as I believe its really wanted to help them to do a better job of personalizing advertising. See https://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2017 ... er-address for example.

Re: I can't set up Gmail on T'bird
It turns out that I had to create a whole new gmail account. Everything is working fine. Now comes the lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng process of getting all of the places where my old email exists and update it to the new one. Thankfully, Thunderbird lets me keep two emails at the same time. Hopefully, the emails for my old one will die down.tanstaafl wrote:If I go to gmail.com , enter my gmail address and press next I get a "One account. If you can still log into your old email account's web interface (i.e. using your web browser), see if you can configure your old account to forward your mail on to your new gmail account.
