Duplicate 'Junk' messages

Post by tnffuser »

Several months ago I started getting duplicate, junk only, messages, from gMail only.
No duplicates from non junk, inbox messages.
It is no real biggy, I simply delete them, just wondering.
TB junk setting are the same on all email accounts, 'enabled', 'personal and collected', 'spam assassin' (default?).
A gMail setting somewhere duplicating messages, TB downloading twice?

How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

Check the setting under menu path Tools->Account Settings->Junk Settings->Destination and Retention. If Thunderbird is moving messages to the server Junk folder and Gmail is moving them on the server side, you would wind up with duplicates.

All 'accounts' are set to move junk messages to junk folder on local folders
and 'Local Folders' is also set this way.
The junk folder under the local folders is where the duplicates are being placed.

This may not help but it can't hurt -- First back up your Thunderbird Profile -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
With Thunderbird closed, find and delete the file Junk.msf in the Local Folders sub-directory of your profile folder/Mail http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder#Thunderbird. Restart Thunderbird and compact the Junk folder under Local Folders. See if duplicate messages turn up in Junk in the future.

Thank you for the suggestion, but after closing, backing up, deleting, restarting, compacting, nothing has changed.
This seemed to work for one day, then the next day duplicates (exact date, time, etc) started showing up again.
Weirdly, junk from Amazon, eBay and 'established' others are not duplicates.
.
At least they are going to my junk folder. So, will just live with it.
Maybe set my junk folder to delete after a day or two?
