Boot up problems

Frequently when I boot up T-bird, I get a blank page just like the one you get when initially setting up an email account. In other words T-bird has no emails listed. I can shut it down and reboot and it comes up properly. Its more of an annoyance than a major problem. Is there any way to get emails loaded without having to reboot?

What version of Thunderbird?
What security software are you running on that system?
Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
