I was writing a long email, my Linux laptop ran out of battery and shut down. After booting, the message is not available in any draft folder, nor in the tabs of TB. Is there any standard location on disk where the draft could have been saved as a file? Or anywhere else to seek for within TB?

What target is selected for saving draft messages under Edit → Account Settings->Copies & Folders.
Do you have Thunderbird set to auto-save draft messages every "nn" minutes? Check that under Edit → Preferences -Composition->General?
