Unable to download emails

Greetings
I seem to be having a problem getting Thunderbird to down load emails.
I'm just getting out of the hospital after a 2 month stay.
I probably have a thousand emails sitting on the server. Thunderbird connects, goes thru
the "checking for new mail" for about 2 minites, then quits.
I deleted "inbox.msf", no help.
Not sure how to proceed at this point.

Who is the email provider?
How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

Hi

Extreme Hosting is the provider.
http://www.extreme-hosting.net/

It is currently set as a POP server.

I have several web sites there, and my main email is xxxxxxx@xxxxxx.xxxx
That is the one I am trying to download.

Close Thunderbird. Navigate to the webmail page for that account using a browser. Review and then delete the oldest message in the server inbox folder that has not yet been downloaded to Thunderbird, or move that same oldest message to a server folder other than the inbox. Log out of that account and then launch Thunderbird to see if messages will download.
