Using TB 52.8.0 (32-bit) on Windows 10. I have 5 email accounts. Email counts in each account don't add up to the number shown in the unified folders - no unread emails. Why and how can it be fixed? Already tried compacting each account. For example, below is what TB showed at the time of this writing:
Total count in unified folders inbox = 9
Count in account 1 = 4
Count in account 2 = 0
Count in account 3 = 0
Count in account 4 = 0
Count in account 5 = 1
Email count in unified folders does not add up

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unified_Folders_not_working
"exit Thunderbird and delete both "smart mailboxs" and the virtualfolders.dat file. That file is used for Saved Search (aka virtual folders) settings. A side effect is that if you had any saved searches they will be deleted and you will have to recreate them. The reason for deleting the file is Unified Folders is a "advanced folder view" that uses saved searches. Restart Thunderbird."

Re: Email count in unified folders does not add up
Thanks for your help. I did as you suggested (deleted 'virtualFolders.dat' and 'smart mailboxes' folder). I still don't get the correct count. Now I have:
Total count in unified folders inbox = 22
Count in account 1 = 15
Count in account 2 = 3
Count in account 3 = 3
Count in account 4 = 0
Count in account 5 = 0
If I restart TB then I get the correct count in the unified folders inbox.
Total count in unified folders inbox = 22
Count in account 1 = 15
Count in account 2 = 3
Count in account 3 = 3
Count in account 4 = 0
Count in account 5 = 0
If I restart TB then I get the correct count in the unified folders inbox.

Re: Email count in unified folders does not add up
Update: Looks like when I start TB, the emails that are already in the unified folders inbox (from the previous session) are counted twice. When I *restart* TB - NOT close and open the application - the correct count is shown.

See the "If something else in the windows layout is broken :" section in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Toolbar_or_wi ... ot_working . It probably won't help, but those are the only other files I can think of to try.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Go_back_to_an ... hunderbird if you want to try installing an older version of Thunderbird in a different directory, to test if its a version specific bug. It will reuse your existing profile.
