Assume I have defined 5 accounts in my Thunderbird.
Now when I click on "Get all new messages" then all new messages for these 5 accounts are retrieved from remote POP3 servers.
Is there a way to exclude 2 of the accounts from this global retrieval action?

I think you can exclude an account if it is a pop account.
Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings (for that account) > Advanced
In the "Advanced Account Settings" dialog, uncheck the "Include this server when getting new mail" setting.

This only works when I select "Inbox for different account".
When I enable "Inbocfor this account" and checkbox "Include this server when getting new mail" is empty (=deactivated) then POp3 mails are fteched anyway
