SMTP login failure

I wife's Thunderbird will not log in to SMTP to send emails; however, it will login to download emails. When she tries to send email, Thunderbird asks for the password, but the password she uses (which is correct) Thunderbird says is not correct. She uses EMClient to send emails now, but she doesn't like it. Her computer is using Windows 10 with the newest version of Thunderbird for windows. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Who is the email provider?
What is the full text of the error message seen when sending fails?

Without posting her full email address, what settings do you have under menu path Tools->Account Settings->Outgoing Server (SMTP)->click on the account name at the upper right of the dialogue:
Server name:
Port # :
User name : (Just tell us if it is your full name or just the bit before the @ symbol)
Authentication Method:
Connection Security:

Server name: smtp.somocowireless.net
Port: 587
Username: uci-mom
Authentication method: Normal password
Connection Security: STARTTLS

Error Message:

Login to server smtp failed
Retry Enter New Password Cancel

Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent using Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.somocowireless.net for an unknown reason.

Try entering the entire email address for the user name.

As you suggest I entered the entire email address for the user name. That seems to work.
