Post by Roderunner »

Hi Folks, some how I have managed to delete or hide the calendar.
Removing and reinstalling failed to fix it.

Its Lightning enabled and working? If it is try importing the *.ics file for your calendar .

If Lightning won't enable try installing a fresh copy from Thunderbird.net , perhaps you're using the version meant for 52.9.1. Or see if you can tell Thunderbird to check for updates to your add-ons.

What version of Lightning you use depends upon what version of Thunderbird you have, and you installed 60 directly, rather than via a automated update. So there might be a version mismatch.

Where is thhe *.ics file?
-
I use 'PatchMyPC' to keep me updated, when TB 60.0 appeared, I looked in FileHippo where it was shown as a Beta Version. I never installed it from that app.
I was eventually convinced it was a genuine update for version 52.9.1 on another forum so I let it get installed.
-
Normally I do updates for Firefox, Thunderbird & Avast manually as its a smaller faster method.
-
I downloaded TB Portable from Portable Apps site, set it up and had no trouble. It has the Calendar App.
-
When I click Tools>addons, No updates available. I get option to disable or remove 'Lightning Calendar Tabs, version 2.1 + Theme Font & Size Changer version 64.1
-
I'm using version TB 60.0 on the release update channel.
-
Just downloaded TB from https://donate.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunde ... tbdownload

The *.ics file should be in the Thunderbird profile, same directory as prefs.js and abook.mab.

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... lightning/ doesn't list a version of Lightning for 60. I suspect you should install version 6.2 of Lightning from https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... r_Versions if you didn't let the setup program for TB 60 install it (as a bundled add-on). Automated updates for Thunderbird 60 not being available yet might explain why no Lightning updates where available from tools -> add-ons.

Is it the calendar file itself (i.e. the data) or the extension that's missing?

If the data is missing
, it depends on whether you were accessing a Google calendar (easy to fix) or a a local calendar. If it's a local calendar (i.e. not on Google, another server...), then there may be tricks depending on whether or not you had made a copy beforehand.

If it's the extension that"s missing, it is actually quite easy to fix.

First of all, check that indeed the extension is missing. Lightning is now integrated in Thunderbird. And the built-in extension almost always is of the right version, which simplifies a lot eventual updated. But the built in extension might have been deactivated by error or because your profile had the separate extension at some point or because you disabled it.

1. Press on ALT to show menus, then select Tools –> Add on modules

2. In the modules listed, click on Extensions, then check that "Lightning" is listed amongst the extensions. Check both in the active extensions (at the top) and the inactive ones (at the bottom, in grey).

3. If by any chance, it is listed amongst the inactive extensions, activate it and restart Thunderbird. You should be OK at that point.
If at that point it tells you "Lightning can't be activated because this version is incompatible with Thunderbird, the most durable solution is to remove it.

4. Whether Lightning is missing or you just removed it, do the following to reactivate the built-in version of Lightning.
Visit this page: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/calendar ... hunderbird
and follow instructions in the second block: "Lightning disappears after a Thunderbird update"

Good luck!

I had been using the ReminderFox add-on for the calendar, which hid all traces of Lightning in Thunderbird version 60, even after uninstalling ReminderFox. The instructions in #4 in mgagnonlv's post worked for me.

I have followed the instructions in your link above and now have Calendar access on the 'Options' Menu.

I still have 'Theme Font & Size Changer for Thunderbird' with the option to 'Disable' or 'Remove' I thought it was not compatible with this version of TB.

The theme font & size changer at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... tb/?src=ss and the one at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... ed/?src=ss explicitly state it supports version 60. If you are using a different one (one of the older forks) try setting extensions.strictCompatibility false using the config editor. That gets some add-ons to work that don't use any of the API's that were modified/dropped in version 60.

Well, there is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pr ... -user-data and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/us ... e-profiles . It hard to help you with the little information you provide.

If you can't find what you want on SUMO (support.mozilla.org) browse http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Profiles . Both communities tend to have knowledge base articles on the same subjects. SUMO's knowledge base tends to be less technical, and have many more pictures/icons.

How I fixed mine in Linux Mint
Running Thunderbird 62.2.1
I followed the instructions above.
Went to the Addons Manager and Lightning was listed as incompatible with Thunderbird 62.2.1
I searched for the extension in Preferences>Advanced>Config Editor, it was not listed there.
Went back to Add Ons Manager and deleted Lightning.
Went to Synaptic Package Manager in Mint and installed Lightning version 62.2.1 and it's working fine. All my data and settings are there.
A bit difference in sequence but if you're missing Lightning in Linux Mint (Ubuntu) this may work for you.
Hopefully it will update automatically from here on.
mgagnonlv - thanks for the helpful post!
