Forwarded Emails Marked as Read in Windows and Linux

Post by Alfred Neuman »

I am using the Message Filters Tool to forward emails. They are marked as Read immediately when they arrive and are forwarded.
This is something new. It didn't start happening until recently.

How do I stop this? I see nothing in my filters that would do this.

Please clarify what's happening. Do you mean that the messages are marked as read when you receive them and they are then forwarded?

Yes. They are forwarded and then marked as read immediately after they are received.

You might check the setting under menu path Edit->Preferences->Display->Advanced and adjust the options "Reading." Setting the "After displaying for" 99999 seconds will mean that messages will not be marked as read unless they are opened in a new window or new tab for reading.

There is no such option on the 52.9.1 version of Tbird in Linux, or the 60.0 version in Windows that I see.

Tbird does the same thing in Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) when forwarding mail with the Message Filter Tool.

While you can tell the filter to mark the emails as read, I have not done so.

In Windows the menu path is Tools->Options->Display->Advanced. It's definitely there in Windows 52.9.1. I'm looking at it right now.

Thanks. This is a work around. Now I don't miss any new emails when they are automatically forwarded, but I do have to mark them as read manually.

This shouldn't happen and it didn't on prior versions.
