Thunderbird doesn't start with windows

Post by otuatail »

YOU SAY
Just like any other program you do it in your operating system. https://www.howtogeek.com/228467/how-to ... y-computer

On these versions of Windows, you can simply open your Start menu, locate a shortcut to an application you want to start automatically, right-click it, and select Copy. Next, locate the Startup folder under All Apps in the Start menu, right-click it, and select Paste to paste a copy of that shortcut.

NO YOU CAN'T.
I Can't get to startup

Can't get to Settings > Apps

There is no > Apps

FED UP OF THIS CRAP. Why can't I go to Alt >Tools > Options within Thunderbird. A logical place to look.

I don't understand the reason for the YOU SAY. I doubt you confused us with howtogeek. We're not run by Mozilla, we're a independent user community.

I have no problem launching the settings program using windows start (under Windows 10), and then selecting Apps. That brings me to "Apps & Features". However, I don't have a All Apps in the start menu. Stuff like that keeps changing with updates to windows 10. That makes many how-to articles for Windows out of date. I'm using version 1803 of Windows 10 Home (according to winver).

I suggest you look at https://www.howtogeek.com/208224/how-to ... ndows-8.1/ instead. It was written 2 years later than the one you chose on that web site so its more likely to work with windows 10. Microsoft explains how to change what apps are run on startup for Windows 10 at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... artup-apps

See http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3033822 for a related thread about starting Thunderbird on startup using the task scheduler, that recommends configuring it to add a several minute delay after startup because Thunderbird is so i/o intensive. That would be the easiest solution, and one unlikely to break with a future update to Windows.

FYI holding down the ALT key is just a way to temporarily enable the Menu toolbar (if its disabled) in Thunderbird so that you can use Tools -> Options. However, you can also get to the Options menu from the hamburger/menu button. It just has a different hierarchy, with no Tools menu.

Logical perhaps but not something generally implement even in Microsoft products. There is no "start on boot up" setting in Word, Excel, Edge, etc, etc.
