FONT SIZE ISSUES: Font Changes Size On Their Own

Post by Majorbuzz »

I have my font set to Tahoma 10. When some recipients receive my email, they sometimes see tiny font, or much larger than I've sent. Same applies when I receive their replys. I'll display my settings for version 45.8.0. I'm running Windows 10.
Thank You for any help!

Thank You DanRaisch for the info. I went to the sites listed. Most appear to require signing up, and the one that doesn't displays nothing that says "posting for Forum Upload. Why you can't simply upload the jpeg directly to this forum I'll never understand. So I guess there will be no print screen. I really appreciate your help though.

Posting directly to the forums is blocked for a couple of reasons. One is to prevent (or at least minimize) the posting of spam, particularly porn spam, which had become problematic a couple of years back. Another is to minimize storage space requirements, as the forums are hosted by a very generous institution of higher learning and the forum owner/administrator does not wish to abuse their kindness.

It costs nothing to have an account on some of those hosting sites (Imgur for one).

I went and uploaded it to Imgur per your suggestion DanRaish. The best I could do was to obtain a link to the uploaded image, which I placed in my original post. Thanks so much for your help.

OK, for one thing you have left "Allow messages to use other fonts" checked, which permits incoming messages to use fonts selected by the sender rather than by you.

For another, you have the selected font size set smaller than the minimum font size. Not sure that that is your problem but it seems it could cause issues. You could try upping your selected size to something larger (14 ?) and the minimum to the same then send yourself a text message to see what happens.

Also, does the problem appear with all messages or only with messages being replies to or forwarded?

Before you suggested it, I did NOT "allow messages" to use other fonts. After leaving it set that way for roughly a week, I still seemed to have the same problems, as my recipients did Dan. Somewhere I read it might be better to allow them, so I set it back.

I tried the size change earlier after seeing your reply. That also didn't seem to help the recipients (2) on the other end. After changing the selected font to 14 it did however make everything on my end bigger. My original font though was too large, and the reply font was easier to read, but that also didn't help the overall picture.

No, some back and forth messages to the same person my be fine sometimes, and yet at other times they see the problem. However, if I send a message to myself, there's never an issue. I can reply back and forth between 2 Comcast accounts I have and everything is as it should be. This has become a big mystery. When Googling this issue several weeks ago, it appears that a fair number of other people were having the same problem. After reading through a few different forums, there never were any chosen solutions. The finger seemed to point that in some instances Thunderbird was just 'buggy', regardless of version numbers.

Let me please show you what I see in my inbox after a message has gone round trip. I thought it wiser to alter the jpeg so no email addresses were seen.

Hi Dan. Thank you for sending the link. I went through the entire thread, and I got the impression that everybody was guessing at a global solution. What may have worked for some didn't work for others.

So what I've done (at least for now) was in my composition window, I changed the font size from 'larger' to 'normal'. Apparently 'normal' is the default, and is more friendly toward the recipient. In my display setting, I checked the box which "allows messages to use other fonts". It seems to work between my Comcast accounts and my hotmail account, though I haven't gotten any replies from my two 'testing buddies' yet.

Now I have to figure out what "Other Writing Systems" means. I originally had mine set to "Latin". I'm thinking that all the other settings are geared toward my preferences instead of what will fix the problem.

Any feedback you may have about what I've written is very welcome.

Where are you seeing that term?

Options>Display>Formatting tab>Advanced> Fonts For> Bottom of drop down list

I saw a fair number of people using this option rather than the default, which as you know is Latin.
