Filelink in Version 60

Post by Oyle »

Hello,
is there any news on when the DL filelink feature will be working agin in Version 60?

I sent an email to thre author and was promised he was working on it... This was back in summer 2018, but no news from that quarter.

Currently the only option is Box.
OwnCloud also used to be an option (via an add-on but that add-on apparently has not been updated to work with Ver 60.

This is really an excellent feature for sending very big files and it's a pity only Box is there as an option to choose from.

Thanks for any update on this point.

I'd never even heard of DL until your post. One of the posts in https://github.com/DownloadTicketService/dl/issues/74 claims that it works if you set extensions.strictCompatibility false (using the config editor). That's the standard workaround to try for add-ons that don't formally support version 60. Did you try it?

I have set extensions.strictCompatibility to false, but DL still does not appear as one of the options to use, still only Box.
I uninstalled and re-installed it, but it still does not work.
A great pity, especially when very big attachments have to be sent by email.
Let's hope the developper will hear/read us and upgrade it to work with TB 60

Mega supposedly works with 60.2.1. See https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... src=search

Nextcloud? I suspect the main problem would be finding a free service using it that you can sign up for. https://nextcloud.com/providers/ seems to list some..

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... -filelink/ supports version 60 and the issues list at https://github.com/nextcloud/nextcloud-filelink/issues doesn't mention problems with version 60.

Thanks for the update.
Like for Box I assume - but have not checked - you probably need to sign up, possibly pay for these other services.
Thing is, I have my own server, so I could use both DL and OwnCloud or either once the 2 add-ons are upgraded to work with TB 60 and beyond.
I would rather work in combination with my own server than "trust" my sensitive files to a third party server over which I have no control.

I will try and contact the 2 authors again and nudge them in the right direction.

In the mean time any helpful info is greatly appreciated.

I looked into Nextcloud and OwnCloud and got some interesting reads on the Internet...Nextcloud is a split-off from Owncloud, so nearly identical, but none of the file link apps on the TB apps website work with TB 60.
The DL filelink app was updated, apparently on Nov 17, but the add-on am manger still states it is not compatible with TB Ver 60.3.1 and DL still is not offered as a choice when trying to send very big attachments.
Wait and see if things move seems to be the only watchword just now.

Now that I am on TB 68 it would be great if DL and the OwnCloud Filelink add-ons were brought up to speed.

Have downgraded to TB 60 again, as there are still too few add-ons that are working with Ver 68 for now. Dropbox is now working again with Filelink.

The less you use an email client as a file launcher and browser, and the more you use it as a plain text renderer, the more you can use an old version without hitting security risks. With script blocking, or a trusted antivirus software, it may be appropriate to use an old version if it is more convenient for you.
Most everyone knows, but a reminder is good - if you can avoid it, never click any link in any email. It is safer to type in the URL of the business in the URL bar and start from there, or use a trusted bookmark.
