Lost Multiple Signature Capability on Tb

Post by Peter P. Schifferli »

In previous versions I could right click and select the pre-formatted signature I wished to use however this was lost with recent upgrade to 60.3.1. I downloaded the Signature Switch add-on which should work however when I right click on Signature Switch my two signatures are greyed-out and nothing happens if I click on them:

Any suggestions? TIA

Thunderbird itself did not offer signature switching functionality. Do you know what extension you were using in older versions?
Have you tweaked the compatibility setting as described in tanstaafl's Nov 27 post in this thread? http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14816512

Thanks Dan, changed extenions.strictCompatibility to False and restarted TB as suggested, no joy; signature selections still greyed out. I believe I was using Signature/Auto Paste/Prefill Fourms add-on for this function previously.

The next step would be to try updating the MaxVersion value in the extension itself. Download the .xpi file from https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... src=search Then use the instructions from tanstaafl in the link above to edit the rdf file that contains the actual code for the extension.

It works for me with simple html signature txt files.

Signature Switch 1.7.1
Thunderbird 60.3.1
Windows 7 SP1 32-bit

Signature Switch
http://addons.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/addon/611

I get an error in the error console when I click the edit button in the extension options.
NS_NOINTERFACE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004002 (NS_NOINTERFACE) [nsISupports.QueryInterface] setsignature.js 345
There is a pre-release version available.

Insert Signature feature has returned, so I removed the Signature Switch add-on and all is well. Perhaps enabled by the Config Editor change I previously made as suggested?

Seems likely.

Hi
I have the same problem with the Signature Switch add-on, which should work, however when I right click on Signature Switch my signatures are greyed-out and nothing happens if I click on them.
I changed extenions.strictCompatibility to False and restarted TB as suggested above, edited the install.rtd file (not sure if I did it right…), but was lost with the explanations on how to save the hacked xpi file.
Where exactly do I save this xpi file? Which extensions folder?
This is the edit I did on the rtd file:
<!--- thunderbird -->

<em:targetApplication>

<Description>

<em:id>{3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>1.0</em:minVersion>

<em:maxVersion>60.*</em:maxVersion>
</Description>
</em:targetApplication>
</Description>
</RDF>

My PC runs on Windows 10Pro 64 bit and I'm using Thunderbird 60.6.1 (32 bits)

Thanks in advance

Signature Switch 1.7.1 supports Thunderbird 60 so you don't need to disable strict compatibility or hack the install.rdf file.

Thanks for replying. I'm using Signature Switch 1.7.1.
From Achim's site, one the of issues is this:
"the signature-filepath mustn't contain unicode-chars; see BugZilla"
My signature paths are of this type: C:\Documents and Settings\ct\Application Data\Thunderbird\CT-UM-Pt.htm
I don't foresee na issue with this.

The 2 other issues are:
some themes are known to mess around with basic gui-elements; so if you're using a third-party-theme and miss the dropdown-arrow on the toolbar-button etc. ... try uninstalling/deactivating your theme to fix it!
the default-font gets changed when inserting a signature on an empty html-mail; that's caused by this known bug: Mozilla-Bugzilla

I'm not using a 3rd party theme and the last issue is unrelated.

I emailed Achim 2 weeks ago about this but did not get a reply.
Can you help?

How did you solve it? I'd like to document the solution in one of the knowledge base articles, where it will be easier to find than searching the forums.
