Delete folder = "command did not succeed"

Post by karlbu »

Hi all — I set up Thunderbird email for someone today, and encountered an error that a) I have never seen before, and b) strangely I can't find any relevant hits on the Net to troubleshoot.

When attempting to delete a folder (right-click > delete), an error window pops up with the following:

The current command did not succeed.
The mail server for account [account name] responded:
[ALREADYEXISTS]
Target mailbox already exists

...which makes no sense to me.

No problem deleting emails inside any folder.
The email account is set up as an IMAP account, and all folders are subscribed to the email server.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Is there already a folder with the same name in your trash folder?
If you are using "when I delete a message -> move it to trash" try changing that to "just mark it as deleted", delete the folder, and then compact the parent folder.

OK thank you. I'll look at that setting and advise.

Thanks for your assistance and link. I think there were duplicate folders in the trash from another email client.

All good now. Thanks again.
