Thunderbird 60.3.3 issues

Post by Muerte33 »

This is not a big deal, but it is not the same as in the pre-60 Thunderbird.
Thunderbird 60.3.3 takes almost 15 seconds for me to get to my inbox screen (which is about the same in pre-version 60).
If I disable Lightning it is VERY quick though (wish there was a fix for this, but Reminderfox is probably on the way out, so I don't want to convert to it).
This is no big deal, but in the pre-Thunderbird 60 days I had a screen (like a splash screen) that would tell me Thunderbird was at least loading.
Now I get a 15 second blank screen, where I wonder if I had clicked on the icon.
Is there a way to get this screen back with an option or something so I don't inadvertently double click on the icon to load it again?
Also,
I used to set a switch inside the advanced settings in Thunderbird that blocked view of my inbox till after I entered my "master" password.
mail.password_protect_local_cache
If I leave that switch "True", it makes me enter my password twice now (when using a master password).
I liked having that option set so my inbox would not be viewable until I entered a password, but I don't like entering it twice.
Thanks very much!

ReminderFox for Thunderbird seems to be still actively maintained. I read something in the tb-planning mailing list that confirmed that. My impression is that the long term risk is if the Thunderbird developers decide to fully integrate Lightning rather than bundling it. While that wouldn't prevent ReminderFox from working you'd still have to pay the resource/performance price of having Lightning, which can be discouraging. ReminderFox can import the *.ics file used by Lightning (and vice versa).

I suggest you experiment with enabling the optional Thunderbird start page via tools -> options -> general. With luck that will be displayed while you are waiting 15 seconds for the rest of Thunderbird to be loaded.

See if http://kb.mozillazine.org/Performance_-_Thunderbird helps.

There is still a bug if you set a master password that can cause you to be prompted for it multiple times. See http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3044826 for the current status.

I tried enabling that option under tools, options, general, "When Thunderbird launches....." but it still shows no splash screen (I remember trying that a while back, and it did not work, but thought maybe 60.3.3 fixed something).
It has this: https://live.thunderbird.net/thunderbir ... 1204174145
which I don't remember putting in, so I clicked on "restore defaults", and it is the same.
Wonder if it is having trouble getting to that url? It goes to that address in Firefox Quantum quickly.

I configured a image file on my hard disk (so no need to access the Mozilla web site) as the splash screen and noticed that the main window, folder pane and folder listing were displayed before it. Since you have the same problem with version 52.* I'm skeptical your problem is a bug in Thunderbird. Lightning is a different issue. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=733039 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=569555

Try checking for bad sectors on your hard disk and whether you still have free memory after loading Thunderbird w/Lightning. Lightning is a resource pig, perhaps your system is thrashing.

The slow loading is definitely due to Lightning being enabled, if I start without it, Thunderbird 60.3.3 fires up QUICK.
I need Lightning though, it is my main calendar. I think part of the problem is I have a LOT of recurring events in there like birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
I almost bit the bullet and moved over to remiderfox, but I saw people were having problems with it and Thunderbird 60.x.
Thanks again for all the help, I can live with what I have, I just thought there might be an easy box to check to fix it.
