The message you receive was created by a server, somewhere. Thunderbird is only doing its job in forwarding this message to you. A few possibilities:

Did you create on a server somewhere? To receive a valid answer, it needs to be a bona fide address. If not, then either:
– The address doesn't exist on the server. The error message feels like either the domain exists but not the address itself,
– Domain doesn't exist, therefore you are receiving a reply from a dns server somewhere telling you the domain doesn't exist (less likely), or, if it is a new domain, it hasn't yet populated (i.e. it is not known to the whole world).
