Cannot get emails

Cannot get emails
Until today, I was able to open up TB and get my mail from my Goggle account. Today it keeps asking me for my password and telling me it cannot connect to server. I just updated TB and now this. What is it??

Go to Thunderbird → Preferences->SECURITY > PASSWORDS tab> SAVED PASSWORDS button and there you can delete old passwords. Restart Thunderbird to ensure that the stored password is cleared from memory. The next time you "Get Mail" Thunderbird will ask for the password and you can check the box to remember the value.

I restarted and when it asked for my password, I typed it in and it still says "Login to server imap.googlemail.com with user name (my email) failed." Then there is Retry, cancel, and enter new password. I have tried everything on this tab and nothing allows me to get to my new mail.

Check the settings for that account. Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings. What values do you have now:
Server name:
Port # :
User name : (Is it your full name or just the bit before the @ symbol)
Connection Security:
Authentication Method:

I have imap.googlemail.com for the server, port 993, my complete email address and log in the name for the user, connection is a SSL/TLS and the authentication method is "normal Password"
Why do the new updates cause all this frustration!!!????

I have followed all the multiple suggestion sonthe web, (releasing the Gotcha file, turnign on accept insecure apps etc) none of it helping.
I use TB portable. If I now download the desktop version and start again, how would I import the data from the Portable apps version?

runs Chrome 71, Thunderbird 60.5 32bit, Windows 7 (64bit), uses TB with POP not IMAP

I tried to send a email to a company and this is what I got.
Sending of the message failed.
The message could not be sent using Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.googlemail.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

And what settings do you have for that server in Thunderbird?

Maybe they should try changing the server names to imap.gmail.com, and smtp.gmail.com?

I have different Google accounts using either version (smtp.gmail.com and smtp.googlemail.com) and both forms work.Maybe they should try changing the server names to imap.gmail.com, and smtp.gmail.com?
