Setting up Protonmail
Can anyone help me trouble shoot an issue getting Protonmail to work in Thunderbird?

Perhaps, if we knew what that issue might be.

Re: Setting up Protonmail
Yeah I'm having trouble setting up a new account for Thunderbird to decrypt my mail, the ports it uses by default, it says I have the wrong username and password, I know I don't. Protonmail support suggested me using different ports to test, but Thunderbird says certain ports aren't encrypted and doesn't let me proceed? Thanks Dan, really appreciate it, as always my friend.

I'm not sure I understand the reference to you're using TB to "decrypt" your mail. Are you receiving messages from someone using PGP or the like? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Good_Privacy
Are you using the recommended settings for prontomail from this page? http://prontomail.com/imap.html

Re: Setting up Protonmail
The protonmail bridge seems to be a local proxy. Out of curiosity how much memory does it use? When you "send encrypted messages to external recipients" (who don't use protonmail) what do they need to have installed to decrypt it?
I'm happy using Fastmail but like to know more about other alternatives in case some day I want to switch.

FYI https://www.ghacks.net/2019/02/24/how-t ... tificates/ suggests removing certificates for QuoVadis, which are required by Protonmail.

Yes, here is a link for you with more information on that @tanstaafl https://protonmail.com/support/knowledg ... ide-users/ The bridge uses very little memory 70 MB is the most I've seen on Mac.

Re: Setting up Protonmail
Anytime, also, how do I get Thunderbird to stop telling the connection to the server timed out?

Re: Setting up Protonmail
I don't know of a way in Thunderbird to prevent it from displaying that error message, though you can tweak the timeout settings to gain a little more delay. You could probably use utilities such as AutoHotKey to automate detecting the popup window and closing it, but that wouldn't solve the underlying problem. I suggest you try powering off/on your router, there are plenty of cases where this solved the problem (especially for a wireless connection). I'd also run a internet speed test such as https://www.speedtest.net to see if there is a problem with your ISP. If you do that I suggest you don't use the default server, chose one further away.
