Thunderbird 60.5.2 send mail from external program

Post by a3n »

Hello I have updated Thunderbird at the last version (italian).

When I try to send an email from external program (ERP), Thunderbird shows the following message "Another application is trying to send mail using this user profile. Do you want to send the email?".

If I answer OK the email is sent directly without opening the window of the message composition, contrary to what happened before, and so it's not good [-X because I can not, for example, write the text of the email ... ](*,)

Solution?

(Sorry for english)

Its been reported (and confirmed as a bug by the developers) in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1530820

"MAPI no longer working after update to 60.5.2 this morning. Sending PDF as email attachment from Nitro PDF reader no longer works, nor does right clicking on file and selecting "send to: Mail Recipient"."

The bug report claimed the regression bug only effects the Windows 32 bit build - that the unofficial 64 bit builds for Windows works okay. I installed the 64 bit build from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/ ... n64/en-US/ . let it configure itself as the default email client and was able to send a file as an attachment from Wordpad using file -> send in email (that uses SimpleMAPI). I confirmed that mailto (right click on the the triple dot at the end of the address bar in Firefox) didn't break.

The 64 bit builds are unofficial, they're available on that mozilla web site as a side effect of the new build process. They won't be official until someday when they're available from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/

There is a slight extra risk as they are not tested by Thunderbird QA but in practice they seem just as reliable as the official 32bit builds. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Go_back_to_an ... hunderbird if you'd prefer to go back to 60.5.1.

Very strange that the x64 build works partially... A few versions ago, it didn't work at all, only if you where using it as an admin user. Now I tested again and only worked from adobe reader. From another app it didn't worked. Hope this gets ironed and begins to work with all apps that call the mapi so that I can switch all my clients to the x64 version.

I followed the advice here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.c ... 530820#c30 to download the full 32-bit installer for 60.5.2, installed over the existing 60.5.2 (which had been upgraded from 60.5.1), then restarted the W10 computer. File Explorer Send to/Mail Recipient is working, and email from a 3rd-party app (pdf reader or FastStone Image Viewer) is also working.

Hi All, I have not been able to use the "Send to Mail Recipient" since updating to 60.5.2. If I tried to use this facility everything appeared normal but a new email would not appear. I played around with all sorts of suggestions on how to resolve this. I even had a look into the SendTo folder and made suggested changes there, it all appeared ok within the folder but when I went back to using the Send to menu the Mail Recipient option disappeared. I reluctantly then uninstalled Thunderbird and installed an older version 60.3.0. Thankfully everything then worked normally, even the Mail Recipient option reappeared.

Not sure if just reinstalling did the trick or whether it is down to the older version?

Is there a bug in version 60.5.2 or was I unlucky?

There was a post March 1st on the tb-planning mailing list that updates on the Thunderbird release channel were disabled so that they can take the time to deal with the MAPI issue.

NEWS FLASH: Go to Thunderbird's Help menu, and check for an update. I just updated my TB, then it restarted, and the issue with attaching a PDF to an email has gone away.

Current version of Thunderbird is now at 60.5.3.
