As I understand it, TB can only access the Inbox, although, I see that if you click on the Junk folder, it finds e-mails - but, I forget to do that - wouldn't it be good if everything went to the Inbox?
So, I have tried bypassing Bulk Mail before in Yahoo Mail, as follows:
Yahoo Mail / Settings / Filters / + Add new filters
. . . To delete the filter, highlight it, then click garbage can at the top

Thunderbird can only access the inbox folder on the mail server, if you have a POP account. However, it can access all of the folders on the mail server if you use a IMAP account.
Some email providers provide a setting in webmail to essentially tell the POP server to transparently fetch messages from both the inbox and the bulk mail folder when the email client asks for new mail. The email client is completely unaware of this. The spam is only in the spam/bulk mail folder on the mail server, but gets downloaded into the email clients inbox folder.

I'm using IMAP. Previously, I had to click into Junk to see if anything was there, at least sometimes. Maybe not now, with the new YMail filter (The 2nd one, above. I'm deleting the 1st one).

Let me think about writing a knowledge base article about bypassing spam filtering. If I do that I'd include some other methods than server side filtering too. Thanks for sharing your research.

I think you have to put quotes around @ for the Yahoo Mail Filter, also: "@"

The Yahoo Mail filter wasn't working. I deleted the above, and changed it to:
The "To" field . . . "contains" an "@" symbol . . . with no quotes around the @ . . . and it worked
