As I understand it, TB can only access the Inbox, although, I see that if you click on the Junk folder, it finds e-mails - but, I forget to do that - wouldn't it be good if everything went to the Inbox?

So, I have tried bypassing Bulk Mail before in Yahoo Mail, as follows:

Yahoo Mail / Settings / Filters / + Add new filters
. . . To delete the filter, highlight it, then click garbage can at the top

THIS NEVER WORKED. WHY? . . . https://answers.yahoo.com/question/inde ... 026AAJ3Vc6
Filter Name: Bypass Spam Folder
From / does not contain / 3kgcpwut1iie
[check] Match case
Choose a folder to move to / Inbox
Save

THIS SEEMS TO WORK . . . https://c-command.com/spamsieve/help/tu ... he-yahoo-m
Filter Name: Turn Off Spam Filter
From / contains / @
Choose a folder to move to / Inbox
Save

For GMail, I'm not sure that this logic correct . . . https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to ... pam-filter

GMAIL / Settings / Filters and Blocked Addresses
Create a new filter
Has the words . . . is:spam
[check] Never send it to Spam

Why? Because no e-mail will probably ever have "is:spam" . . . so, it seems like this filter will never be used for anything.

Any idea what the simplest filter is for GMail, to bypass the Spam folder?

Thunderbird can only access the inbox folder on the mail server, if you have a POP account. However, it can access all of the folders on the mail server if you use a IMAP account.

Some email providers provide a setting in webmail to essentially tell the POP server to transparently fetch messages from both the inbox and the bulk mail folder when the email client asks for new mail. The email client is completely unaware of this. The spam is only in the spam/bulk mail folder on the mail server, but gets downloaded into the email clients inbox folder.

https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solv ... er.418712/ is ancient but the next to last post talks about a option in Mail Options -> POP Access and Forwarding in yahoo webmail to control whether the inbox should get any messages that SpamGuard thinks are spam messages. If that still exists, the location and wording might be slightly different. There might be something similar in gmail webmail.

I'm using IMAP. Previously, I had to click into Junk to see if anything was there, at least sometimes. Maybe not now, with the new YMail filter (The 2nd one, above. I'm deleting the 1st one).

There is:
1.) Yahoo Basic
2.) Yahoo Classic
3.) Yahoo New . . . Once you update to "New", you can't get back to "Classic" . . . Why?

Regarding the link above on the "Yahoo email bulk folder" . . . Yes, it is way out of date (11/21/05) . . . What you can currently do, though, is:

YMail New / Settings / More Settings / Switch to classic Mail (bottom left)
. . . But, this actually takes you to Basic Mail, which is ok
. . . Click in the top right drop-down menu, and select:
Options - Go
Mail Accounts . . . It shows you that you're in "Basic". You can select for "Full featured" here.
POP & Forwarding / Access Yahoo Mail via POP
. . . there are some Spam options here
. . . but, I think I have YMail set up best, with the "@" filter, above
. . . so, how do I do that with GMail? There must be a way . . .

Back to my question on a filter for GMail . . .

I found this page:

Search operators you can use with GMail . . . https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7190

So if you have this set . . . Has the words: is:spam

. . . I see that "is" will search for messages that have been marked as "spam"

. . . combined with this, that should do it . . . [check] Never send it to Spam

But what if I want to do it with the "@" sign, like the second YMail filter above that I found?

- - - - - - - - - - -

This page shows how you can put commands into the lines:

7.6.3 Turning Off the Gmail Spam Filter . . . https://c-command.com/spamsieve/help/tu ... he-gmail-s

GMAIL / Settings / Filters and Blocked Addresses
Create a new filter
Has the words . . . {(to:me) (deliveredto:USERNAME@gmail.com)}
[check] Never send it to Spam

. . . replacing USERNAME with your actual Gmail username

But isn't there a simpler way?

- - - - - - - - - - -

Search operators you can use with Gmail - Gmail Help . . . Search for an exact word or phrase ... " " ... Example: "dinner and movie tonight" . . . https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7190

If I use the above syntax: {("@")}
It makes this, after you click "Continue" / "Update filter"
Matches: from:({("@")})
Do this: Never send it to Spam

What if I just use: "@"
It makes this, after you click "Continue" / "Update filter"
Matches: from:("@")
Do this: Never send it to Spam

It looks like it will work if I don't use the Curly Brackets / Braces and Parentheses (I didn't get any error message):

What do you think? Any comments? I think this should be a TB FAQ.

Let me think about writing a knowledge base article about bypassing spam filtering. If I do that I'd include some other methods than server side filtering too. Thanks for sharing your research.

Hey! No problem.

These are my notes on other settings, of what I did before the above.

If I see that it fails, I'll let you know.

Spam in Yahoo Mail is . . . Bulk Mail / "Junk" in Thunderbird

Spam in GMail is . . . Spam / "Junk" in Thunderbird

Tools / Account Settings / Junk Settings
[un-check] "Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account"

01/31/19 Do this in "Local Folders" also? Yes

Reason:
1.) I don't get much of it
2.) If it went to Junk, I then have to click into that folder, which is an extra step
3.) I will just click to delete them at this time

So, I don't need the Junk button, either, at this time

02/28/19
Some e-mails were going to Junk, but TB didn't show them.
I had to manually click "Junk" to see them.
Is it that TB can only pull in the Inbox?
. . . No, that's with POP, not IMAP
. . . It must just not be Refreshing that folder for some reason

03/02/19
It still sends some to Junk, and gives me a message when it thinks some are Junk.
Should I enable it, and train it?
. . . No, see next steps to create a filter that sends everything to the Inbox

I think you have to put quotes around @ for the Yahoo Mail Filter, also: "@"

I'm currently experimenting to verify this.

The Yahoo Mail filter wasn't working. I deleted the above, and changed it to:

The "To" field . . . "contains" an "@" symbol . . . with no quotes around the @ . . . and it worked

I think I tried it again the other way, and then it worked, also - very confusing . . . Do the filters work inconsistently? I only have this one filter, so there is nothing to conflict with it.

Do we have to guess at how to do this, or has anyone seen a page that lists all of the advanced operators for Yahoo Mail?
