Google said something to the effect, 'The App you are using to retrieve email is insecure and your access to gmail with this App has been blocked'

Then it sent me to this page

Why?

If you go to the link above you can see it says:

"Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:
. . . .
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird"

Because claiming other email clients are insecure and/or promoting use of OAuth2 for authentication instead of sending a password over a secure connection helps supports their business plan. Using "normal password" over a secure link is just as secure as using OAuth2, except for the fact that somebody who has physical access to the PC running Thunderbird could use tools -> options -> security -> passwords to see your stored passwords. You could actually argue OAuth2 is less secure because it makes you more vulnerable to phishing attacks. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OAuth#Security

Goto https://myaccount.google.com/ , click on security , and in the Less secure app access panel, click Turn on access. Or change the authentication method in the gmail accounts server settings to OAuth2.

I think the s..t trick was not warning me they were doing this and telling me how to disable it before locking me out.
