Despite the General settings showing background is white, the background I have is dark grey, so the question is, why? Note that I have the same version on my laptop and the background is white.I did however, just do an upgrade on LT, but a clean install was done on the Desktop. Has anyone have any clues?

Under what menu path are you finding that option selected?
Have you compared the settings on the two machines?

It may be the way you have Windows set up. There is a setting in Settings->Personalisation->Choose your colour (or it may be a radio button) that you can set to dark and light etc. On one machine you may have it set as dark, on the other light.

Yes, it was the Windows background setting, to blame.

Thanks for tip.

Glad it worked. Please can you change the subject line to include "[SOLVED]" as it helps others. (Many thanks).

One thing I must point out is that Windows 10 Settings has had a dark grey background for some time without any affect on former Thunderbird versions, but this changed when I installed V68.

Yes. I think the new version picks up this setting from Windows, which previous versions have not done.

I set Windows to dark and apps to light, but Thunderbird still came out dark, so it is something the Thunderbird developers should work on to fix.
