I have an email account that is shared that I rarely want to send from. How can I prevent Thunderbird from randomly sending from that account.

One way to do that would be to ensure that that account is set up to use it's own SMTP server definition and to delete any saved password for that account/server. This would cause Thunderbird to ask for a password each time you mistakenly try to send from that account which give you an opportunity to halt the Send and change which account was to be used. ... TP_Servers

Go to TOOLS > OPTIONS >SECURITY > PASSWORDS tab> SAVED PASSWORDS button and there you can delete old passwords. Restart Thunderbird to ensure that the stored password is cleared from memory. The next time you "Get Mail" Thunderbird will ask for the password and you can check the box to remember the value.

The simplest solution is don't select that account in the folder pane when composing a message. The currently selected account determines what the From: address defaults to.

You can also use add-ons such as ... nt/?src=ss to associate an identity with a specific folder or an add-on such as ... er/?src=ss which forces you to choose the sender address first. There are plenty of other add-ons to manage identities at but most of them don't support version 68. ... ty/?src=ss is an example of a older add-on that might have been useful.
