Wasting a lot of time on a feature that should be part of the IU, not something for the CSS hackers.

I tried the CSS thing but failed to get it to work as intended.

This is for the font used in the Inbox, and other message lists.

Ver 68, is there some bona fide code that will let me change the font color. The blue on black is ugly .

So you are using the Dark Thunderbird theme, the unread messages in the Thread pane are in blue, and you want to change that to a different color?

The Folders with new messages are also blue. You would probably want to change that color.

Try CustomCSSforTB which is designed for 68+. Download here https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforTb .

Don't forget in TB 68+ to make sure you set:

Settings/Options > Advanced > General > Config Editor...
toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets to true

userChrome.css changes may not work without setting the above preference setting.

Here is some sample mail tree code to play with. It works on 60.9. Should hopefully still work on 68+.

Code: Select all
#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-row(odd) {
    background-color: #E7F7FE !important;
    border: none !important;
}

#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-row(even) {
    background-color: #F9FEFF !important;
    border: none !important;
}

#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-row(hover) {
    background-color: #AEDDFC !important;
    background: rgba(229, 227, 225, 1.0)
                  linear-gradient(rgba(255,255,255,.6), rgba(252,252,252,.3), transparent,
                                                       rgba(0,0,0,.05), rgba(0,0,0,.1), rgba(0,0,0,.15)) !important;
    border: none !important;
    margin-left: 4px !important;
    margin-right: 4px !important;
}

#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-row(selected) {
    background-color: #FFD0F8 !important;
    background: rgba(255,208,248,1.0)
                  linear-gradient(rgba(255,255,255,.5), rgba(250,250,250,.4),
                                                      transparent, rgba(0,0,0,.06), rgba(0,0,0,.1)) !important;
    border: none !important;
    margin-left: 4px !important;
    margin-right: 4px !important;
}

#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-row(selected, focus) {
    background-color: highlight !important;
    background: highlight
                  linear-gradient(rgba(255,255,255,.5), rgba(250,250,250,.4),
                                                      transparent, rgba(0,0,0,.06), rgba(0,0,0,.1)) !important;
    border: none !important;
    margin-left: 4px !important;
    margin-right: 4px !important;
}

#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-row {
    height: 22px !important;
    padding-top: 1px !important;
    border: none !important;
    margin-left: 6px !important;
    margin-right: 4px !important;
}

#threadTree {
    margin-left: 2px !important;
    margin-right: 4px !important;
    border: none !important;
    border-top: 3px solid #4C9DE5 !important;
}

That code is working, but I'm afraid the FONT color is not among the mods.

Anyone know the secret sauce to get that to work? I looked, can't find it among the 10,000 possibilities

Google this "css font color".

CSS codes can be easily found in that manner. So to change the font color of something you would add the line "color: <name of color you want> !important;"

The name of the color you want can be expressed by one of many allowable names or by a hex string as in #FFFFFF which is white or #000000 which is black.

To set the font color for the message tree mail items you would use one or all of these examples:

#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text {
font-weight: normal !important;
color: #FFFFFF !important;
}

#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(selected) {
font-weight: 500 !important;
color: black !important;
}

#threadTree treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(selected, focus) {
font-weight: 500 !important;
color: #0000FF !important;
}

if you are trying to tweak color selections for CSS or anything else I have personally found this utility to be invaluable. I use the free version, but there is also a pay version. I don't know what the differences might be.

I use Colorpic 4.1 which can be downloaded here:

The pay version can be downloaded here:
