Has Thunderbird Dowloaded All My Yahoo Mail?

Post by abrogard »

I am not sure how Thunderbird works. I thought it downloaded all my Yahoo mail once I set it up and pointed it to Yahoo.

It lists emails going back 19 years. But just now I was idly looking back at the beginning of the list and tried to open a couple of them, a few of them, and they all failed with various server errors or something.

So apparently Thunderbird has been looking for them on Yahoo's servers.

So does it just download the list or does it download all the emails?

Can it be made to download them all? Because that's really what I'm looking for.

:)

How is the account set up in Thunderbird, as POP or IMAP? Find out using menu path Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.

It sounds as though you don’t have the application’s menus displayed. Try pressing Alt+T while viewing the main Thunderbird screen to display the Tools menu.

With an IMAP type account Thunderbird doesn't remove your messages from the server. Instead it is displaying messages as they exist on the server. If you are seeing error messages referring to the server when trying to view those older messages, it may mean that that those particular messages are corrupted on the Yahoo server. What is the exact text of the error displayed when you select one of those 19 year old messages for viewing?
