Authentication failure when doing lots of operations quickly

Hi,

This problem has bugged/irritated me for a long time. I have a few Gmail accounts. I access them through Thunderbird via IMAP. Authentication is all set up correctly, I can login, read messages, send messages, etc no problem.

However, when I try to delete messages one-by-one, in relatively quick succession, randomly I begin to see "Authentication failure while connecting to imap.gmail.com" alerts.

If I let Thunderbird sit, it will eventually catch up and all the messages will be deleted.

I have tried enabling logging to try to understand what's happening, but nothing stands out.

Any thoughts here? Or suggestions where to look?
