THUNDERBIRD crashing every time I upload item.. (Mac)

It's getting really annoying now.

Every time i try to upload the spinning wheel comes on...

What is going on?

Moving to Thunderbird Support as no specific bug has yet been identified here.

When you say "upload" are you referring to sending messages? If so, are you able to receive messages?
What version of Thunderbird? Is this a new installation or one that was working but is now having this problem?

I can receive messages, and pictures no problem. If i compose a message it's fine, will send no issue, it's when I press upload file to attach picture or file. It instantly freezes. I have to then force quit.

I have uninstalled and installed so the latest version.

I can't even get to that stage... as soon as I press attach it freezes.. colour spinning wheel mac.

Sometimes it will let me, othertimes not.

Rather than starting Safe Mode as you did, try menu path Help->Troubleshooting Information->at top right click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". Then try sending a file that failed to send previously. If it sends successfully the first time, you can try sending multiple times, making your own address the addressee so you don't confuse your actual correspondent.

I've been observing the same very annoying issue for several weeks now.
Thunderbird 78 or Firefox 83 / 84 both make the entire system freeze for three to four minutes when I'm going to upload a file. As soon as the Finder dialogue window opens and I select the file to be uploaded my Mac freezes. When the Mac recovers after three or four minutes the file is uploaded and I'm able to upload other files without any delay or freeze. As far as I could observe this happens only the first time when the Finder dialogue window is opened in a session.
The drag & drop method to upload the same files doesn't provoke any freeze.
Until now I thought that this is a macOS issue but in the meantime I've read several reports about this issue with Thunderbird running on a Mac.
I'll do some testing with Thunderbird 68.* in a new profile.

I am experiencing the same issue. I have upgraded to the latest version (78.6.1) removed add-ons and tried safe mode.

I am running Mac OS 10.11.6

I can send an email with attachments from different folders, file types and sizes. Once the email is sent and I repeat the operation I get the spinning wheel and my system locks up and i have to force quit TB. Here are my steps

Open TB
Click Write
Click Attachment Icon
Finder windows appears with folder contents. I am able to access all files and folders
Select 3 files to email
Enter email address and subject
Hit send
Send Successful

Repeat Operation:

Open TB
Click Write
Click Attachment Icon
Finder window appears, spinning color wheel appears. no files or folders are displayed.
Right click TB icon on dock
Show TB not responding and force quit.

If anybody has any solutions to try.

I can also send the error console as well if that helps.
