Cannot invite people to calendar events

Post by adefaria »

I'm using TB Version 78.7.1 with Provider for Google Calendar Version 78.0.1. I create an event and invite a few friends. If I go back to the event I see nobody else is invited.

I go to calendar.google.com and invite friends there. That seems to work. I go back to TB and refresh the calendar - the people are invited to the event. I then change the invite list inviting somebody else in TB. Go back and look and all people are removed from the invite list.

Seems like a bug to me. Perhaps it's in Provider for Google Calendar, I can't be sure.

Try using CalDAV rather than the add-on to connect to google calendar.

Several of the comments in https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... -calendar/ claim the add-on has become buggy. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1261974 describes how to configure CalDAV.

Man, that process was extremely confusing but I think I got it working. For example, that link that describes how to configure CalDAV starts with "Choose CalDAV". Really? Where exactly do I Choose CalDAV? For TB I think they mean: Create a new calendar, select On the Network, then choose CalDAV. Next, it says to put the URL in Location. While there is a Location field there there is also a Username field. What should I put in there?

It also says that the URL is https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/c ... lid/events and that you should replace calid with calendar ID which "can be found through the Google Calendar web interface". It says that "the calendar ID is shown in a section labelled Calendar Address" yet on that page there 6 occurrences of "address" and none of them seem appropriate. Indeed what I replaced calid with is simply my Gmail address. That worked. This is why I say it's confusing!

Finally, a question: In the past, you could not associate Email with a Google Calendar using Google Provider. Thus calendar invite accepts would come into my Gmail account. Now I can specify an Email address so rather than using my Gmail address I'm using my own personal Email address. How does this affect the flow? Will I now get calendar invite accepts to my personal email address? And will TB only allow me to accept invites that are directed to my personal email address? Or should I change that to my Gmail address?

We're not run by or formally associated with Mozilla despite the similarity in the names. We initially were the defacto support forum but eventually the project created their own (official) support forum at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/thunderbird .

I'm confused by your last question, perhaps because I'm used to using CalDAV. If you don't want to ask people to send invites to your personal address why not just add a Thunderbird account using your Gmail address so that you get the invites in Thunderbird?
