need help setting up encryption

Post by DragonLore »

Hello,
I've recently acquired a secure email service, and want to enable TB's encryption on that account, but am afraid I'll lock myself out of my own emails. I would very much appreciate some guidance in setting it up correctly.

Are you talking about using OpenPGP?
What email provider?

https://blog.thunderbird.net/2020/09/op ... erbird-78/ has a overview. Then read https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/op ... to-and-faq

The developers participate in "Thunderbird’s discussion list for end-to-end encryption functionality at: https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/e2ee" but don't ask for help there until you've already tried following the advice in the support article. Some potentially useful threads:

https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups ... 1ae60f117e
https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups ... ddf22313ac

Posteo's support articles haven't been updated to reflect the fact Enigmail has been replaced by OpenPGP functionality built into Thunderbird. They haven't published yet a follow-up article to https://posteo.de/en/blog/enigmail-user ... derbird-78 saying that its okay to update. But that shouldn't effect you much as you can treat them as just another email provider.
