Can't Change Font Size (Linux)

Post by borgward »

Thunderbird 78.7.1 Linuxmint 20.1 Cinnamon
I replaced 18.0 with 20.1. I had a separate home. Thunderbird now looks retarded. Font size is larger than before. I have another machine that has Thunderbird on it and it looks normal. Larger number on font means larger font? I went to preferences > General. Font size showed up as 16. I decreased it to 14, then 12. Looked the same/ Closed Thunderbird and reopned. No change. Changed Size to 72 Still no change.

Font size looks OK on everything else. Display resolution is 1280 X 600

Setting a font size for a font doesn't guarantee that it gets used. You might not even be using the fonts you think you are. Try unchecking "allow messages to use other fonts" and setting a minimum font size. You want to configure this for both "Latin" and "Other writing systems".

If that doesn't help try setting layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to 1.25 or 1.5 using the config editor. That's essentially changing the DPI (dots per inch) setting. Its normally a string that defaults to -1.

I assumed you are not using the optional userChrome.css file in the chrome directory in the profile to customize the way the user interface looks. If you are, for recent versions you need to set toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets to true and restart.
