Thunderbird IMAP settings GMail

Post by crg79 »

Hi, I have recently become aware of TT602 error messages when sending email out using Thunderbird. I have also received reports from third parties trying to send me email also getting error messages. Everything worked fine until a few weeks ago.

My email set up is Thunderbird synchronised via IMAP with my GMail account (Incoming and Outgoing). I also have GMail fetch incoming mail sent to my TalkTalk email service server via POP3.

1. Could I check that I have all the correct configuration settings for my Thunderbird client?
2. Should the outgoing IMAP server be configured to GMail or TalkTalk (my email service provider)?

Thanks

I found https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Ema ... -p/2774423 which claims "The TT602 error in this case is normally issued when the incoming mail is not authenticated. It's a spam protection measure. Mail being forwarded by a mail hosting service is commonly caught by this situation."

I suspect some recipients don't trust messages sent using a TalkTalk smtp server as too much spam is sent that way. I suggest you switch your Gmail IMAP account to use the Gmail SMTP server.

To let you send using the TalkTalk From address from that account log into Gmail webmail and add your TalkTalk From: address as a second legitimate From: address. Then add it as a multiple identity in the Gmail account in Thunderbird.

The spam score is normally based on message content/attributes and what domain it was sent from, not the From: address.

1. See this article -- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/th ... -and-gmail

2. To be a bit pedantic, IMAP is an inbound email protocol. The outbound server would be SMTP. You should be able to use either Gmail or TalkTalk SMTP server settings to send messages via Thunderbird.
