TB 91x panel icon unread message count missing. (Linux)

Post by rafikiphoto »

I would like an unread message count badge to show on the Linux Mint Cinnamon TB panel icon. I don't see one here although I see some asking how to get rid of it! Is there a setting somewhere to switch this badge on and off?

What is a TP icon, and what does the Linux Mint Cinnamon Thunderbird icon look like?

No setting that I know of for Linux, but there is to hide the unread message count badge on the Windows Thunderbird icon.

TP was a typo. Read TB, now corrected. It looks the same as the Windows TB icon as far as I can see. No right-click option to control the badge I'm afraid,

Are you talking about the tray icon?

Zaion had a similar problem with the tray icon.

Thanks. I had a look at the link and tried to translate to Linux. Following the setting mentioned for the Windows 10 discussion there I don't see the option mentioned. Perhaps it's not even a feature of TB for Linux. Perhaps someone could confirm?

Not a feature for Linux.

I thought it hilarious when I saw it appear on my Windows laptop when testing a release candidate.

Some of us Linux users may remember when we had that feature provided by an extension from Ubuntu, but that went away with Thunderbird 60 when "Native notifications on Linux are now re-enabled"

Ref: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thund ... easenotes/

One of the first things I noticed about native notifications on Linux was it only showed one email, with a total count of new messages, but you couldn't click on that message to read it. Clicking it brought the application into focus, and you had to look for it.

Not a feature I was used to from using Thunderbird for several versions.

So, I went into the Config Editor and found "mail.biff.use_system_alert" and changed it to "false".

Now I get the Windows style notification and click on an email to read it.

I hadn't tried Birdtray and thanks. It seems to be working so I now have an indicator. I'd prefer a badge on the panel icon but this will do for the moment. Thanks again.
