Badge feature in TB91

Post by TheCoalCracker »

It appears TB 91 only counts new messages if they're in the inbox folder. I filter my messages into many sub-folders and they aren't being counted.

How is the account set up, as POP or IMAP? In Thunderbird the menu path is Tools->Account Settings->Server Settings->Server Type at the top right of the dialogue.
When you refer to a "Badge feature" do you mean the unread message count?

My accounts are set as POP. Yes, the badge feature is the unread message count.
Worked fine in 74 using the Unread badge addon, which is now incompatible.
BTW...if the email is in my inbox (and only inbox), I can mark as read/unread and the counter reflects that.

You could add a "Mark as Unread" action to the filters that move received messages to those sub-folders.

I always include the "Mark as Unread" in my filters.
Sometimes, after reading the email, I'll mark it as unread.
Nothing helps.

Right click on the name of the Inbox folder and select "Properties" from the context menu, then click on the "Repair folder".
Repeat that process for any sub-folders that show the problem.

Also, in the filter definitions, what is selected for the match option? All of the following, Any of the following, or all messages?

Did a repair on inbox and sub-folder Amazon.

Not knowing how to show a snipit here, here's the settings for an Amazon filter:
1. Match any of the following
2. From contains "Amazon"
3. Mark as Unread
4. Move message to Amazon sub-folder
5. Stop filter execution
Currently have 2 unread Amazon emails. This count shows in the folder tree (Amazon (2)) and is always accurate.

Also, I sorta proved that the inbox is the only folder that will affect the badge count.
I moved an email to inbox and set it as unread. Badge updates.
I moved an email to a sub-folder and set it as unread. Badge does not update.
The above holds true for any inbox. I have several email accounts.

By "snipit" I take it you mean screenshot. While your post above was clear, see this for next time: https://web.archive.org/web/20190929163 ... _the_forum

I have sub-folders under the Inbox and have the unread count displayed when messages with that status are in the sub-folderes.

Are you using the "Unified Folders" display in the left hand pane of the main window?

Tried "Unified folders". Didn't do anything in the way of badge info.

I wasn't suggesting that it would. In fact I was wondering if it was part of the problem.
Try Compacting one of those sub-folder to see if that helps. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_: ... ng_Folders

Did the compact.
Running out of things to try.
Perhaps "Unread badge" will be updated to work with 91.
And I do appreciate your help and concern.

I don't think it has anything to do with the Thunderbird version.

Oops...to clarify: "Unread badge" is an addon not compatible with 91.
Also, thanks for the help getting png files attached. Added the link a few posts before (just practicing).
I started TB in safe mode, just to eliminate addons from causing this issue. No luck.

I found a similar issue in the following bug list.

Unread badge should also show number of unread mails in subfolders
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1725844

Bug list - OS Integration
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi ... ntegration

I guess the addon developer doesn't use subfolders.
